The Tooth Fairy and Other Happenings

We've been hunkered down most of the weekend, thanks to a spring snow storm.  We're really thankful for the moisture!

It has been a busy week around here!  The boys are nearing the end of their first round of swimming lessons.  Jacoby goes underwater on his own now and he did a back float all by himself!  Both boys had well-checks on Wednesday with our new pediatrician--we miss Dr. B a bunch but we like our new doctor.  The boys are healthy and growing.

On Thursday, Jacoby got his two front bottom teeth pulled at the dentist.  He did a fantastic job--didn't make a single peep or complaint.  He and I hung out together and ate jello and popsicles the rest of the day.  He impresses me all the time with how he handles all of the medical stuff in his little life.  The Tooth Fairy brought a little extra compensation, since these teeth came out with more effort and bravery.  Jacoby has a great grin now with a little gap at the bottom.  (:

Justin is really busy with work, his dissertation proposal, and preparation for the graduate class he starts teaching on Tuesday.  I think it's safe to say that most of the books are on the floor right now, instead of on the bookshelves.  And you can always tell where he's been working, just by the stack of books left behind.

The boys reached the top of their gem jars, so they went on "gem dates" this week.  Jacoby and I visited a book store with a bit of spending money he got for his birthday.  Morgan taught Daddy how to play "Old Maid".  Justin wasn't sure it counted as a date, but Morgan was adamant that he learn how to play.  (:

The week ahead will be busy.  It's technically Morgan's spring break, so his preschool teacher is coming to hang out with him on Tuesday.  He's so excited to have her coming over to see his room and his new house. Both boys go see the GI doctor on Thursday down in Denver.  We suspect Morgan may be struggling with some of the same reflux/esophagus problems that Jacoby has.  I'm so thankful we have a great doctor we can turn to--they'll probably want to scope him, which is a real bummer, but we'll cross that bridge when it gets here.

Friday we leave for Montana--thank goodness the snow storm was this weekend!  The boys are so excited to visit.

Have a great week everyone!

Eating all things soft, including a jello parfait.  Everything feels better with whipped cream!

Full gem jars!  These are working out better than expected.

Partially completed stencil in the cave...it's taking me forever but I really like how it's turning out.

An Update

All is well with us these days.  We're busy, but life is good.  Signs of spring are appearing and our tulips are coming up around the yard.  I spent time outside cleaning up and trimming today.  Morgan helped me water.  He's very careful with the baby tulips and takes good care of them.  We've been talking about our garden and what we're going to plant this year.

Some other news:

**The boys went to the dentist and have no cavities.  Jacoby, however, has permanent teeth coming up behind his baby teeth.  Which means we're probably having baby teeth pulled soon to stop the shark bite look...sigh.

**Justin's dissertation proposal defense is scheduled for April 22.  FINALLY!!!!

**We finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then watched the movie.  I think the boys were less than impressed with the movie after really enjoying the book.  Now we're reading Little House in the Big Woods.  I'm not sure it's going to hold their attention, but so far they ask for it every night.

**The boys watched the first Star Wars movie.  They pretty much re-enact it everyday in their play.   They are crazy about super heroes these days.  And they're pretty much inseparable and play together constantly.

**Jacoby is doing well in school.  His second report card came home last week, and he's right where he should be.  We enrolled him in a Tues/Thurs summer program at a school right down the street from us.  It's expensive but we feel fortunate to have the option because the other alternatives are summer camp programs that just don't work with our circumstances (namely the food allergies).

**We hope to take a trip to Montana during Jacoby's spring break as long as the weather holds.  We're looking forward to seeing family.

Happy Birthday Daddy/Justin!

Today was Daddy's special day!  He turned...well, let's just say, another year older.  (:

His mom even made him his own special birthday sign.  I think it means "Many Years" in modern Greek, according to almost-Dr. Justin and Dr. Google.

 The boys made him cards

I made enchiladas and we enjoyed a quiet, adults-only dinner

The boys and I got him a book about skiing the Ridge at Bridger Bowl (his most favorite ski place in Montana).  It references the cliff he skied off of (and landed himself in a tree) when he was a younger lad.

And he also received a new ski bag from his parents-in-law. He got to ski A-Basin with Grandpa Bill as part of his birthday too.

And that, my friends, concludes the 2013 Barber Birthday Extravaganza! (:

Happy Birthday Morgan!

This young man turned four today!  He told me as we walked downstairs together this morning that he was no longer my little boy.  In my head I thought, "Oh, you will always be my little boy, sweet pea".  Maybe it was just a hint to not call him "Sweet Pea" or "Punkin Pie" in public anymore.  (:

Morgan was treated to more of Grandmanette's special birthday decorations.  We went with a construction theme this year for him.

He got to open a present from Jacoby first thing this morning.  Jacoby picked out an Avenger (Thor) for Morgan.  He was pretty excited since it was his first superhero.

We visited preschool this morning and brought birthday robots for a special treat.

These guys are so fun.  Most of them have been Morgan's classmates since he started at this school when he was five months old.  It's been such fun to watch them grow up.

Simple cake to go along with the last minute request to also have cake push pops.

 Birthday Boy

He's so excited to be four!

 Love him to pieces!

He waited all day to open presents

More Birthday Happenings

We've had a busy week.  We said good-bye to Grandma Pam and Grandpa Bill on Monday.  But not before we got to play in some serious snow.

There was a lot of shoveling and snowball throwing.

Jacoby was special person of the week at school.  We made this poster and he enjoyed some special jobs at school like being line leader.  For his birthday, he gave his class two books for their library and glow sticks.

The boys are loving swimming lessons.  Jacoby gets 10 minutes of free time in the pool before his class starts.  He's slowly getting used to having his face in the water and even went underwater once.

Morgan has a really good teacher.  They look for rings and practice blowing bubbles.

As part of Morgan's birthday, we visited the Colorado Railroad Museum on Saturday.

I won't tell you how long we waited in line to ride the Galloping Goose...

The trains are huge!

They were really hesitant about standing in front of this snow plow.  It was like they thought it was going to turn on all of a sudden and give them a really close hair cut.  (:

The boys had a great time climbing around and exploring.

The last time we were here Morgan was one day shy of being a month old.  So little and still hooked up to oxygen!

Jacoby was only two!

The great thing was that the nurse visited when we got home from the museum and Momo got to come off the oxygen...finally!

Now my little one turns four tomorrow.  There's not much that's little about him anymore, so I cherish things like when he climbs into my lap, holds my hand when we walk, and the occasional game of peek-a-boo he still plays with me.  (:
