Christmas 2010

We had a wonderful Christmas and hope all of you did as well!

Christmas Eve was a quiet day at home together. We went to a candlelight Christmas service at church with our friends. The boys enjoyed the service, and everyone thought they were as cute as can be as Jacoby marched through the church wearing his Santa hat and saying "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!" to everyone he saw. Our friends joined us back home that evening for cookie decorating and apple cider. The kids had a great time and were so excited about Christmas. We watched the "Little Drummer Boy" together, which is a great Christmas classic that we discovered this year. After bedtime Justin and I began assembling some of the boys' gifts: a mini trampoline from Mommy & Daddy and a play kitchen from Grandma Pam & Grandpa Bill. It was a little more work than we had anticipated, but well worth the effort.

Christmas Day began bright and early with two very excited boys. They started bouncing on the trampoline as soon as they saw it and the kitchen was a huge hit. We had Christmas cinnamon rolls and then began opening presents. All of our family showered us generously with gifts and the boys had a great time opening their presents and discovering new treasures. We spent half the day in our pjs playing with new things, eating yummy Christmas food, talking with our families via web cam, and enjoying our time together as a family. It was a wonderful holiday for us.

We've spent the last couple of days playing and playing, going for walks, watching videos, and hanging out together. Today is the first day that the boys played with their trucks--a 2-day hiatus is the longest they've ever gone without their trucks! We also reclaimed the house today and put away our Christmas things. The boys said good-bye to our lovely tree and also made sure that their gifts weren't going to be put away with the Christmas stuff. (: Justin helps the boys practice their jumping--it's a great physical activity and so far we haven't had to put helmets on them.

We're looking forward to a quiet week ahead and the ringing in of 2011!

A Great Gift

I thought a mid-week post was warranted because of Justin's great news: he passed his first comprehensive exam! All of the hard work and effort over the past 4 or 5 months finally paid off, and his professor said it was a high-quality exam. For Justin and me, this is probably just about the greatest Christmas gift we could ask for this year. Two exams and one dissertation left to go!

We had a wonderful time at Zoo Lights on Monday. All 5 kids were taken in by all of the pretty lights, and I think they just really enjoyed being outside in the dark. You'll have to excuse my crazy pictures. While I'd like to blame it on our camera, I'm sure most of it was due to operator error.

We had a wonderful visit with Uncle Jared. He is an awesome uncle, always jumping right in to help with whatever is needed and the boys love him very much. We always enjoy his visits. He and Justin had a good time skiing up at Winter Park while he was here.

I also just have to say that being on vacation + being at home for vacation = a very happy Mommy. I'm in heaven having almost two weeks off at home with my family.

Justin is currently doing a tumbling/gymnastics session with the boys. We'll see who ends up crying first. (:

We went shopping for groceries today and played at the park. Our weather is chilly with lots of sunshine. We're not expecting a winter wonderland anytime this week.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

A Very Merry Christmas Time

We're really enjoying all of the Christmas festivities right now. Justin and I attended my work's holiday party this week. One of Jacoby's preschool teachers came to watch the boys, and the look on their faces was priceless when she walked in the door. They had a great time together, and it was great for Justin and I to go to the party and not worry about a thing since she knows Jacoby's needs and how to take care of him. It was a great party.

Jacoby had an appointment with the endocrinologist this week. He's grown 2 centimeters and gained a pound (since September). This was excellent news, and he continues to be right on track for catching up on the growth chart. He talked with the doctor and answered his questions very matter-of-fact...like a pro, really, especially when he listed off all of the medications he takes. I vacillate between being hugely proud of how he interacts with his doctors and being really sad about the whole thing. Jacoby got scheduled for his full GI evaluation at National Jewish Hospital on January 13. Because of a cancellation, we were able to get in almost a month earlier than our original appointment in February. We got a welcome packet from the Gastro Eosinophilic Disease Program (GEDP), so we've been busy reading about the community we'll soon be a part of. This is the only program of it's kind within a 1,000-mile radius of Denver...we won't be moving anytime soon. We're so blessed to have this medical community in our backyard for Jacoby.

The boys are doing great and are really enjoying Christmas time. It brings us such joy to watch them. Jacoby got to wear pjs to school on Friday, and his class watched
Polar Express in the afternoon. He's really enjoying the Christmas classic movies...I think Rudolph is his favorite because the Abominable Snowman becomes kind and helpful in the end. Morgan is talking like crazy and adds new words to his vocabulary each day. We're joining a group of friends tomorrow evening for Zoo Lights in Denver...always a favorite activity this time of year.

We are looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas at home this year. While we'll miss being with our families, we're very excited about not having to travel. Justin and I are trying to figure out all of this business about Santa and how much to play along for our boys. Now that Jacoby is at an age to notice, I've been surprised at how pervasive Santa this and that is just about everywhere we go. So, we'll see how it plays out for our little family. My dad did point out to me that I turned out ok even after believing in Santa for a few years as a child. (:

We hope you all have a very merry Christmas!

Hittin' the Slopes

We hope you all had a great week. Ours was busy but in an uneventful kind of way. The boys are loving all of the special deliveries that are arriving at our door. They love to play in the boxes and with all of the packing material--it's been a great activity for them! They came to visit me at work one day last week and walked around to all of the offices to say hello to everyone. I think they brightened the day for a few people. (: Justin is already busy preparing for his next exam. It will be an exegetical exam on Clement of Alexandria (who I often fondly refer to as Alexandria of Clement when I'm trying to talk intelligently to others about this).

Jacoby has been very busy with his imaginative play, and as you'll see, has added a new character to his repertoire (he wants to wear his ski gear all the time!). Morgan finally decided to break free from the crib last Sunday. I don't think it went quite the way he was expecting as he crash landed to the floor with a big thud. He hasn't tried it out again, so we're hoping the crash will keep him in the crib a few more months. The boys have been having so much fun together after we say good night and turn out the lights. I don't know exactly what they're doing but there is a ton of giggling and laughing involved. Jacoby has decided he needs to sleep right by Morgan's crib, so we find him camped out on the floor most mornings now.

It's taken us almost a year of going to sales and ski swaps, scouring the internet for deals, saving pennies, and hoarding gift certificates to gather the necessary equipment, but after 6 years we're finally joining the ski community in Colorado. And our activity this weekend was making our first trip up to Winter Park for a day of skiing. It was a chilly day, but both boys had a great time. Jacoby spent 45 minutes on the bunny slope with Justin, and then they made a few runs down the big hill with Jacoby in the backpack. He seems to enjoy skiing, and always asks to go again and says he wants to go fast. Morgan had fun hanging out with me and playing in the snow as long as he wasn't too far from the action. It was a fun day to be outside in the mountains.

Happy Birthday wishes to Uncle Jared and Cousin Jax today!

Playing in the packing peanuts

Very busy...

Playing in the Christmas sensory bin. I collected lots of spare Christmas things and put them together. The boys love exploring this bin, and I add something new for them to find every time we get it out.

Mommy forgot Morgan's coat at home. Sigh.
So he got to wear part of Mommy's. He didn't seem to mind.

Coming down the big hill.
There's no one else on earth that I would ever trust to take my child down a mountain like this.
